The Daniel Fast is a spiritual fast rooted in the Old Testament prophet Daniel, focused on restricting certain foods rather than the timing of eating, based on Daniel 10:2–3. Many people use this time to deepen their spiritual focus through prayer, meditation, gratitude, or other personal growth goals. The 40 Day Food and Fitness Fast is a spiritual fast during Lent modeled after the Daniel Fast, rooted in Daniel 10:2–3 and Jesus’ fast in Matthew 4:1–11. Spiritually, participants focus on prayer, meditation, gratitude, and intentional mindset shifts such as reducing negativity and procrastination. Lifestyle-wise, the fast emphasizes whole, unprocessed foods, healthy sleep, stress reduction, movement with weekly step goals and a 30-minute Saturday workout, and concludes with a 5K virtual or in-person run/walk.
